Nurseries in Gloucester have been warned to be vigilant after an unrecognised teenage girl tried to collect a child.

The girl arrived at a nursery in Tuffley to collect her "nephew", who she referred to by name, said police.

A worker phoned the family and was told that nobody fitting the girl's description was due to pick the boy up.

The staff member returned to tell the girl, but she had gone. The incident happened on Thursday evening.

A Gloucestershire Police spokesman said the girl was described as white, very thin, about 5ft tall, 16 years old and with "mousy" hair down to just below the shoulder.

She was wearing square glasses with very thick lenses, a black coat and dark trousers.

Another girl was seen in Grange Road at the time and officers believe she may be connected.

She is described as having blonde hair in a pony tail, is aged about 14 or 15 and was wearing black trousers and a long coat.
