The True Origin of the Internet
Posted On 04/11/2009 14:51:44

In ancient Israel, it came to pass that a trader by the name of Abraham Com did take unto himself a young wife by the name of Dot.

And Dot Com was a comely woman, broad of shoulder and long of leg.

Indeed, she had been called 'Amazon Dot Com.'

And she said unto Abraham, her husband, "Why doth thou travel far from town to town with thy goods when thou can trade without ever leaving thy tent?"

And Abraham did look at her as though she were several saddle bags short of a camel load, but simply said, "How, dear?" And Dot replied, "I will place drums in all the towns and drums in between to send messages saying what you have for sale and they will reply telling you which hath the best price. And the sale can be made on the drums and delivery made by Uriah's Pony Stable (UPS)."

Abraham thought long and decided he would let Dot have her way with the drums. And the drums rang out and were an immediate success. Abraham sold all the goods he had at the top price, without ever moving from his tent.

But this success did arouse envy. A man named Maccabia did secrete himself inside Abraham's drum and was accused of insider trading. And the young man did take to Dot Com's trading as doth the greedy horsefly take to camel dung. They were called Nomadic Ecclesiastical Rich Dominican Siderites, or NERDS for short.

And lo, the land was so feverish with joy at the new riches and the deafening sound of drums that no one noticed that the real riches were going to the drum maker, one Brother William of Gates, who bought up every drum company in the land. And indeed did insist on making drums that would work only with Brother Gates' drumheads and drumsticks.

And Dot did say, "Oh, Abraham, what we have started is being taken over by others."

And as Abraham looked out over the Bay of Ezekiel, or as it came to be known "eBay" he said, "We need a name that reflects what we are."

And Dot replied, "Young Ambitious Hebrew Owner Operators."

"YAHOO," said Abraham.

And that is how it all began. It wasn't Al Gore after all!

Working from home

December 2008

How great is that! Being able to work from home has it's benefits but it also has it's challenges. I know ,not HAVING to get up to clock in is great, but guess what, I still wake up early! Being able to plan your own day is fab, but guess what I still end up rushing around and not getting everything done.

But you can't get away from the fact that being your own boss and knowing you are in control of your destiny is really cool - even if that's a tad scary at times. So in this blog i'm going to share my cares and woes of working from home and hope you enjoy my ramblings. To the next time

4th January 2009

OK I know .. what have I been doing. I started this blog and then disappeared. Well I have no excuse, I just got distracted and then Christmas arrived and I've only just managed to get myself back in the saddle so to speak.

So here we are in 2009 and I bet you are all saying 'where did 2008 go!' Well I have to say I'm determined to make some changes this year and really get my head down. NO New Year resolutions, just some good old fashioned planning and goal setting. So I'm excited and I hope you are too.

Monday is the start of the working week, so i'll let you know how I get on.

So far had an intersting week. Actually took Tuesday off for some retail therapy at Swindon Outlet Village and got a MEGA bargain; a leather jacekt for a snip! Continued on to Bracknell to see family and had a great night with my mum and sister (she's over from France where she now lives) Wednesday I went along to a digital Camera course with James Minter (a member) and learnt LOADS! he's setting up a digital camera club, so look out for the details. If you want to take better pics, he's your man!

On top of that joined a really clever online business which you should check out; www.birthdaybonusclub.com/gigi

But the Big event of this week is happening TODAY. We are launching our very own social networking site; if you like the sister to Cotswolds Connect, called Talk Worcestershire. We can't wait to get our hands on the site and start promoting it. SO if you know anyone who lives in Worcster, send them along to www.talkworcestershire.com and we'll see them there

Here's to a very exciting 2009
